It only takes a couple of minutes to install a Rattle-Free Trailer HitchTightener. No special tools are needed and no modifications to your ball hitch or receiver are required.

Our RFv2 is designed to fit a standard 2” hollow ball hitch. We offer a shim adaptor to allow the tightener unit to be used with a 2 ½” hollow ball hitch.

Yes. We build our tightener using T6061 anodized aircraft aluminum and zinc plated grade 8 bolts, nuts and lock washers. We also apply anti-seize paste to the threads of the bolts during assembly to enhance corrosion resistance and to make the tighteners easier to install and remove.

A standard hitch pin is old technology that just loosely holds the ball hitch and receiver together. The bolt and serrated flange nut on the Rattle-Free Trailer Hitch Tightener draw the ball hitch and receiver tightly together on one side, effectively making them a single, much stronger unit instead of two separate pieces. Because we are pulling the ball hitch and receiver tightly together on one side, there is no reason to go all the way through the receiver.

The bolt, flange nut and lock washer system that we use in our Rattle-Free Trailer Hitch Tightener is more than 3-times stronger & more secure than the standard hitch pin.

The mechanical stress is caused mostly by the in and out banging of the ball hitch as the towing vehicle stops and starts. The in and out pounding of the ball hitch magnified by the weight of the trailer acts like a jack hammer pounding into the tow hitch and drivetrain. The Rattle-Free Trailer Hitch Tightener eliminates this problem by drawing the ball hitch and receiver tightly together which stops all back and forth, in and out, up and down motion of the ball hitch.

The same way it reduces mechanical stress, by eliminating all motion of the ball hitch. As little as 3/8” – ¾” of side-to-side motion of the ball hitch can translate into a foot or more of sway out at the tires/axel of the trailer.

No! The Rattle-Free Trailer Hitch Tightener is easily transferred from one vehicle to another.

Yes, and no. The Rattle-Free Trailer Hitch Tightener does not come in a lockable version, but it is quite secure because it is very unlikely that a common, opportunistic thief will be carrying the correct size wrench to remove it. But, having said that, if you feel more comfortable using a lock we suggest that you use a padlock to secure your safety chain to the receiver.
